LOST lovers (that doesn’t sound right), clear your Saturday afternoon schedules for the remainder of 2007. Five episodes of season 3 are playing on AXN from 2PM every Saturday this December. Season 4 has been cut short to 8 episodes not set to air until February 2008, so this is your opportunity to catch up and try to figure out what the heck’s been happening on this show.
Ultraviolet (2006)
Running Time: 1:30
Cast: Milla Jovovich
Genre: action
Rating: 1/10
Nice trailer, hot ass-kicking chick, testosterone-inducing tagline, what’s not to like? Turns out, plenty. Jovovich stars as comic book heroine Violet who’s caught in the middle of a war. In actuality, she seems to be the only one actually waging war in this one-and-a-half hour head scratcher, spraying bullets at faceless foot soldiers who lie flat on their backs faster than Paris Hilton when the camera’s rolling. Between fight sequences she also manages to strike a pose a-la Zoolander, or change hair color a-la Jennifer Garner in Alias. The change in color’s supposed to reflect how she feels, so I’m guessing the whole Continue reading »
An Inconvenient Truth (2006)
Running Time: 1:40
Cast: Al Gore
Genre: Documentary
Rating: 9/10
It’s the eye-opening true-to-life prequel to The Day After Tomorrow. The state of Florida may have cut his political career short at the #2 position, but Al Gore comes out the clear winner with this Oscar-winning documentary, and right on the heels of getting his Nobel prize too (an award Sean Hannity of the impartial Fox News calls an award for terrorists, right before claiming he’d pass it on to the US armed forces if ever he was given one). Gore cuts through the myths on global warming and pulls out all the charts Continue reading »
Tinseltown’s churned out over a dozen blockbusters from Night at the Museum to Transformers to The Bourne Ultimatum, but save a couple of upcoming December films (which probably won’t be shown here this year, thank you very much Metro Manila Film Fest), moviegoers are better off checking out the new TV fall lineups (see featured reviews). So as we close the year in movies as early as October, it’s time to check out what the big oh-8 has in store. And a word to the wise: save up on movie-viewing cash for mid-year.
July Seconds
In this installment of Flick Pick Special: 2008 Lineup, we take a look at some of the movies hitting theaters July 2008. It’s take two for three franchises: one from TV and two from comics.
Hellboy II: The Golden Army 07.11 (US)
Cast: Ron Perlman, Selma Blair

Details: The first movie got a lot of praises for makeup and Ron Perlman’s acting. Guess that is enough motivation to make a second one. Hopefully there’ll be more to sing praises about in this next attempt. Continue reading »
You’ve seen his ads distracting your major league experience behind home plate this past postseason. Frank caliendo goes solo with his own sketch show debuting this week on TV and on
TELEMUMBLE
Wasting your time faster than the real thing

The bigger stars might prefer to host shows “live from New York” but Mad TV’s sketches are more worth looking up on Youtube (check out Coach Hines for one), and one guy responsible for several of those is Frank Caliendo. He’s right on the money with impersonations of personalities like William Shatner and Dubya (much better than Seth Meyers, but Will Ferrell’s physique is closer). This season Caliendo’s leaving the Fox sketch show… for his own sketch show? I thought variation was good in the entertainment industry. Continue reading »
Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle (2003)
Running Time: 1:40
Cast: Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, Lucy Liu
Genre: action / comedy
Rating: 1/10
Suspension of disbelief doesn’t mean license to bend the movie reality at will. Indiana Jones didn’t suddenly develop the power of flight in the sequels (hopefully this trend will continue into next year). Jason Bourne couldn’t dodge bullets in Supremacy or Ultimatum. Somehow, the angels get to do both, begging the question: is this an action/spy movie about a classic trio of talented agents (which would make sense since this is the sequel to one), or a sci-fi movie documenting the beginning of evolutionary change in human Continue reading »
The Master of Disguise (2002)
Running Time: 1:20
Cast: Dana Carvey
Genre: comedy
Rating: 0.1/10
Not even going to attempt to re-watch this movie for this segment. Sis and I thought the turtle act in the trailer was good for a laugh. Turns out it wasn’t. Nor was the rest of this 80-minute time-waster, the kind of movie you have to snicker through just to somehow justify the cost of the rental. The movie bottom line? Butt obsession, ridiculous premises, and a deux ex machina medium fast-forwarding off what could have been an ugly fight scene.
