Episode: S03E19 “Act Your Age”
House and co. deal with a 6-year-old girl who appears to be a victim of abuse. Chase and Cameron deal with each other after she calls it off. And Wilson takes Cuddy to a play, making House believe Wilson wants to sleep with her.
Rating: 9.5 out of 10. Another interesting case(s). Delicious side stories with continuity.

HOUSE (to Cameron): Find out which fungus it is. Biopsy the lymph node. And take employee of the month [Chase] with you.

Episode: S02E04 “Zero to Murder in Sixty Seconds”
Shawn tracks down Lassiter’s stolen car to a chop shop, but is dissatisfied with how easy the case got cracked.
Rating: 7.5 out of 10. A usual Psych premise.

GUS: That’s some serious stress, Shawn. I have to get a deep tissue massage to work out all the knots in my back. I call the big one “Little Shawn”.

TWO AND A HALF MEN

Showtime: Sun, January 20, 915PM
Episode: S04E09 “Corey’s Been Dead for an Hour”
Charlie confronts Allen about repeatedly leaving him to foot the bill. Jake stays home without a babybsitter while Charlie and Allen double-date.
Rating: 8.5 out of 10. Pulls off several stretches of funny silent scenes. Plus, the usual hilarious quips from the creators of The Big Bang Theory.

CHARLIE: (to waiter) Just give me the check, (to Allen) which you and i will split.
WAITER: Not necessary. Mr. [Geraldo] Rivera took care of it before he left with the ladies. I guess they’ll find out how “At Large” he really is.

Watch List: Breaking Bad

A chemistry teacher finds out he’s terminally ill, so he tries to make ends meet for his family before his end by running a drug lab. Sounds like Weeds? Starring Malcolm in the Middle regular Bryan Cranston, this midseason comedy premieres Jan 20 on AMC. Worth the watch, especially with all your regular comedies about to run out of episodes.

National Treasure: Book of Secrets 01.08 (RP) 12.21 (US)

You know you’re in for a ride when the opening credits shots include a long road and a tree getting hit by lightning. Fresh from a billion-dollar high-seas trilogy, Bruckheimer’s back with the second in what could possibly be another three-movie deal. And if Pirates 3 was any indication, these movies tend to get louder and more fast-paced, and in National Treasure: Book of Secrets every scene is accompanied by up-tempo background music. If you’re watching in a theater with noisy neighbors this movie is the better choice over I Am Legend, which puts stock in a lot of eerily silent shots. However, if you’re in a more civilized place you might want to watch I Am Legend first, then check if your wallet can accomodate a double feature.

Two things are certain when it comes to futuristic Will Smith movies. One, they earn over a hundred mil. Two, everyone or everything wants a piece of the fresh prince, whether they be aliens or robots or, in this case, zombies with sensitive skin.

Will Smith plays soldier-slash-scientist Robert Neville in the loose movie adaptation of a Richard Matheson novel, which figures like a cross between the premise of Resident Evil, the car picking spree of Grand Theft Auto, and the weird-looking Persians from 300.

The year is 2012, and Robert is the only human resident of NYC (more…)

No Getting Past the SkyCable F***-up

It’s six days into 2008 and my remote control’s batteries are draining at a faster pace from non-stop channel surfing. What can you expect, when Skycable’s taken away the 6 channels that probably see most air time on subscribers’ tellies. Thanks to Solar’s efforts, 3 of these channels remain on our subscriptions via free TV. Nonetheless, still a lot of holes in my watchlist this week, and I’m getting a lot more nap time than I want.

I’m used to seeing management flip-flops on radio (hello 97.1 Campus Radio AKA Barangay LS and 103.5 K-Lite AKA Heart AKA Max!), so this latest let-down is no first. The first thing I do is look for alternative stations and flood the net with incessant rants. So before checking out what other cable providers have to offer, let’s try to see how much we can salvage of the shows we’ll be missing. (more…)

I Am Legend 01.08 (RP) 12.14 (US)

That’s right, I’m picking Will Smith’s adaptation over Nicolas Cage’s thriller as first choice on opening night. Primarily, because it must take a pretty good movie to break the box office record for a December opening weekend, given the stiff annual holiday competition (the likes of LOTR and Harry Potter).

Watch for this review on 01.09.

Been putting off reviewing this sitcom since the start of fall season. Majority of the cast is supposed to play insensitive, upper-middle-class, guys-you-love-to-hate roles, and they do it so well you’re tempted to just watch Paris, Lilo, and Brit on E! News for the same effect. (more…)

Flick Pick Special: 2008 Lineup (Part 3 of 12)

Tinseltown’s churned out over a dozen blockbusters from Night at the Museum to Transformers to The Bourne Ultimatum, but save a couple of upcoming December films (which probably won’t be shown here this year, thank you very much Metro Manila Film Fest), moviegoers are better off checking out the new TV fall lineups (see featured reviews). So as we close the year in movies as early as October, it’s time to check out what the big oh-8 has in store.

Jumpstart January
