i am legendTwo things are certain when it comes to futuristic Will Smith movies. One, they earn over a hundred mil. Two, everyone or everything wants a piece of the fresh prince, whether they be aliens or robots or, in this case, zombies with sensitive skin.

Will Smith plays soldier-slash-scientist Robert Neville in the loose movie adaptation of a Richard Matheson novel, which figures like a cross between the premise of Resident Evil, the car picking spree of Grand Theft Auto, and the weird-looking Persians from 300.

The year is 2012, and Robert is the only human resident of NYC Continue reading »

i am legendThat’s right, I’m picking Will Smith’s adaptation over Nicolas Cage’s thriller as first choice on opening night. Primarily, because it must take a pretty good movie to break the box office record for a December opening weekend, given the stiff annual holiday competition (the likes of LOTR and Harry Potter).

Watch for this review on 01.09.

ultravioletUltraviolet (2006)
Running Time: 1:30
Cast: Milla Jovovich
Genre: action
Rating: 1/10

Nice trailer, hot ass-kicking chick, testosterone-inducing tagline, what’s not to like? Turns out, plenty. Jovovich stars as comic book heroine Violet who’s caught in the middle of a war. In actuality, she seems to be the only one actually waging war in this one-and-a-half hour head scratcher, spraying bullets at faceless foot soldiers who lie flat on their backs faster than Paris Hilton when the camera’s rolling. Between fight sequences she also manages to strike a pose a-la Zoolander, or change hair color a-la Jennifer Garner in Alias. The change in color’s supposed to reflect how she feels, so I’m guessing the whole Continue reading »

Transformers Poster

Who wouldn’t have applauded finally seeing our favorite childhood pastime emerge in full animation in the big screen? For those who grew up with this tin can gang, crazed fans makes a standing ovation for the summation of the battle between the Autobots and Decepticons into a comical adventure. The film did not fail to recognize those who are but new to this morning cartoon show and even the girls are swooned in seeing the heroic Optimus Prime.

The Night Watch Poster

A Russian Film based on the first part of a four volume novel with the same title, the movie was translated into an English dubbed version in 2004. It is about a group of people called the Others who exists since the ancient times. The Others are divided into two: the Light or those who are good but likewise imperfect and of the Dark or those who serves only himself. The Light Others are in the form of magicians or mages, shape-shifters, and sorceress while the Dark Others lives as vampires, dark mages and dark witches. Those who are in the middle are the Inquisitors who may either come from the Light or Dark Others who maintains the treaty between these races. The Others can enter the Twilight where the Twilight feeds from the energy of those who enters it but those who can survive long can take advantage of the Twilight’s natural surroundings. For example in the Level 1, Others can walk the earth at speed in a sepia toned environment. While the Light Others are the Night Watch, Dark Others are the Day Watch who maintains the treaty at an everyday basis.

Pan's Labrynth Poster

The film is quite disturbing. Please don’t watch it with younger siblings. But for the rest of us adults, feed your mind. This is one of the most interesting stories ever filmed as it successfully dramatized a combination of history and fantasy with equal strength and impact. The film has an incredible production. Just as we liked Disney conceptualize his theme park on his death bed, Director Del Toro practically detailed his master plan only in his mind. Please be warned that this is a Spanish film yet beautifully dubbed as if you are watching an English film but reading it which is an advantage to most Acer laptop users because of audio deficiencies. Personally, I was moved watching the film as if I had been searching of a one-of-a-kind adult fairy tale since Snow White, The Fairy Tale Ends. Since the film had been avoided completely by our end during its screening here in our country due to a number of discouragements from friends, we are now giving what is due to this film and would like to start a petition to have it in cinemas again.

You know them from :
Milla Jovovich (Alice) starred in the ultra flop Ultraviolet
Ali Larter (Claire) is a cast member of NBC’s Heroes

Notes    :

  1. Think BIG.  The stage gets bigger in each RE; the underground Umbrella Corp lab at Raccoon City in RE1 is relegated to a deja vu setup.  Works well in every trilogy from The Matrix to Pirates to LOTR. Continue reading »
