It’s The Pacifier 2k7 with better lead acting. Smell what Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s cooked up in the first of two Disney flicks for this week’s
SPOILER-FREE REVIEWER for the ITCHING VIEWER
Running time : 1:50
Post-credit extras : Elvis lovers can listen through the relatively short credits
You know them from :
The Rock (Joe) did his acting in the squared circle before acting in movies like The Rundown and Walking Tall
Kyra Sedgwick (Stella) stars in The Closer TV series
Roselyn Sanchez (Monique) is a regular in Without A Trace but might be better known as being on Maxim’s Hot 100 list
Notes :
- Comfort zone. It isn’t a Rock movie without football. Unless he’s just a costar… as in Be Cool… which bombed… (not his fault, though) Continue reading »

This is a musical play currently showing at One Stage at Greenbelt, Ayala that runs from November to 1st week of December. Its about a Jewish father named Tevye (sounded awfully Tevyer during the show) who must break the tradition to keep his daughters happily married. In this tradition, poor Jewish girls are fortunately matched with rich but older Jewish businessmen by a town’s official matchmaker. However, it seems that the younger generation is breaking away from the culture to follow what really goes on with their heart. A poor father of five, Tevye compromises tradition to keep his family intact.

For my students last Saturday at their Comprehensive Exam, one objected against the words “It’s hard being a loser.” I was stunned when I read the quote I have written above the instructions for the examination realizing that they were downhearted by these words. So I have to explain that this only means that in life, you have to prove your worth by at first admitting yourself your own weaknesses. Secondly, a certain passage in Don Bosco’s life featured the same teenage boys who have the same fate. Lastly, this came from a teenage gangster in the film called Gridiron Gang.

The trailer of the film seemed casted and played all through out by real actors for (1) the graphics are similar to its character reference and (2) a split-second peek at the characters and scenes of the film. It was only in the big screen that the nude and voluptuous Mrs. Pitt became a CG fantasy, very much in annoyance of the male viewers. The resemblance of the characters to the actors are impressively identical except for the height of the computer-generated characters, who seemed small in the big screen. The whole film was as if played in a theatre stage, only enveloped by CG through motion capture of the characters and visual effects of the surroundings.

We all have our ghosts left behind that sooner or later will haunt us. Heard this kind of theme for lead characters? Well, we won’t be avoiding that kind of plot in this film. An adaption of Stephen King’s short story with the same title, we meet a novelist (Mike Enslin) who destroys ghost folklore through scientific investigations CSI style. While a friend negatively endorses this film as a waste of time, I couldn’t get that old fat lady with a kitchen knife out of my head as she tremendously invaded my state of mind as the film progressed. If your car payment took a back seat to your newly-bought high-def set, thank your lucky stars for this ABC newbie. Pushing Daisies plays in living color on TV and in this week’s
TELEMUMBLE
Wasting your time faster than the real thing

If you’ve ever gone to the smaller-than-average theaters that screen those artsy films that don’t fill up the room, you probably came out feeling a bit classier. ABC’s Pushing Daisies feels like Amelie for the little screen, complete with third-person narration and annoying lines like giving too much details on people’s ages (yes, yes, it’s art). The show’s got its quirks, but it’s a welcome touch of class for the TV set (or, at the least, it’s something not for The Man Show audience). Besides, with all the props and sets (and possibly CGI), producing Pushing Daisies probably doesn’t come cheap, so it wouldn’t hurt if people take time to watch the show. Continue reading »

If you’re looking to produce yet another crime series, one way to hook audiences is pulling all the stops in an impressive pilot episode. Some shows like CSI start by showing a usual day at the office. The Numb3rs pilot went in a totally different direction (my initial sentiment in 2005 was thinking Numb3rs was yet another CSI), and it worked pretty well. Continue reading »

The film is quite disturbing. Please don’t watch it with younger siblings. But for the rest of us adults, feed your mind. This is one of the most interesting stories ever filmed as it successfully dramatized a combination of history and fantasy with equal strength and impact. The film has an incredible production. Just as we liked Disney conceptualize his theme park on his death bed, Director Del Toro practically detailed his master plan only in his mind. Please be warned that this is a Spanish film yet beautifully dubbed as if you are watching an English film but reading it which is an advantage to most Acer laptop users because of audio deficiencies. Personally, I was moved watching the film as if I had been searching of a one-of-a-kind adult fairy tale since Snow White, The Fairy Tale Ends. Since the film had been avoided completely by our end during its screening here in our country due to a number of discouragements from friends, we are now giving what is due to this film and would like to start a petition to have it in cinemas again.
