Notes :
- All Worlds Think Alike. Doesn’t matter what universe you’re in, prophesies always pick the kids to play “the chosen one” (pause for hushed awe). Didn’t translate into big box office bucks for the last young ‘uns from The Dark is Rising and Eragon, but Harry Potter says this is still a recipe for success, especially if you can target the annoying screaming kids demographic.
- Crazy Cat Lady’s Fantasy. You one of them pet people who like to project their thoughts and feelings on their pets? Take it up a notch and call your pet your soulmate, then watch this movie.
- Potpourri. Ben Lyons put it nicely: if you take the animals from Narnia, throw in the witches from Harry Potter, and substitute the One Ring for the Alethiometer, you get the Golden Compass. That’s not a bad thing. Watch this for all those.
- This ain’t no Pelennor Fields. It’s not a fantasy flick without a battle scene, but the final one here didn’t end with a real bang. But remember that LOTR didn’t catch much blood lust until LOTR:TTT, so give this one time until the sequel.
Watch it? : If Eragon left a bad taste in your mouth, rinse and spit with this more promising fantasy. 9 out of 10, and not just because I’m partial to polar bears. See you next year for more
