The trailer of the film seemed casted and played all through out by real actors for (1) the graphics are similar to its character reference and (2) a split-second peek at the characters and scenes of the film. It was only in the big screen that the nude and voluptuous Mrs. Pitt became a CG fantasy, very much in annoyance of the male viewers. The resemblance of the characters to the actors are impressively identical except for the height of the computer-generated characters, who seemed small in the big screen. The whole film was as if played in a theatre stage, only enveloped by CG through motion capture of the characters and visual effects of the surroundings.
The story of Beowulf seemed a vague high school dream and viewing this film didn’t quite ring a bell to that memory. I am judging that a few story lines were rearranged to fit in the screen adaptation of this epic poem.
If you don’t like reading and is vying for a couch potato badge, it wouldn’t be bad watching this film. But if you’re a nut for literature, I’d rather have you buy a copy of this old epic and let your imagination run wild.
For the effort of CG, we give this film a rating of:
